Welcome to our video series about BC’s Motor Vehicle Act. The act governs what drivers are allowed to do in the province, but how did we get to where we are today?

In the first episode of the series, Paul Doroshenko takes a journey back to the early twentieth century, to when automobiles first started appearing on BC’s roads. The first form of legislation regulating motor vehicles included safety provisions aimed at mitigating the threat of these new, fast-moving machines.

Over the years, as the technology in cars has become more sophisticated, lawmakers have tried to keep pace.
